FAQ

Are the huts available for motorized users?
  • Yes. Snowmobiles play an important role in our hut access and operations. Motorized users are welcome to stay in our huts. Many miles of non-wilderness terrain is accessible via the glacier creek road and the Heliotrope Hut.
What is the permit status  to operate winter huts within the Mt. Baker National Forest?
  • Aspire is currently in Phase 1, of a multi-year permitting process with the national forest. During the 2021-2022 winter season we will be conducting public outreach and for our huts. An environmental analysis and full scoping will follow the 2021-22 season.
Are you huts located in the wilderness areas?
  • No. Our huts will be located outside of, but near wilderness area boundaries. Much of the skiable terrain accessed via the huts will be in wilderness areas.
What does “Temporary” mean in the context of your structures?
  • Our huts are permitted for winter use only. These structures will be erected in the fall, accessed during the winter, and removed in the spring. The huts will be installed on durable road grade and parking lot surfaces and will not disrupt the forest floor.
Can I stay at the Heliotrope Hut with friends/family or do I have to hire a guide?
  • Our hut can be booked by groups, no guide required if someone in the group is a “return” visitor for first time hut users, we require a hut orientation. This introduction to the hut is included when users book a snowmobile “tow” or “mule” into the Heliotrope Hut. This requirement is waived if any member of the group has previously visited the hut. For users who want to include a guide they can book their trip with Mt Baker Mountain Guides.
